Soccer Silicon Valley (SSV), the organization that was founded by seven San Jose Earthquakes supporters in 2004, continued its efforts to help promote soccer and the Earthquakes organization Wednesday night, as a number of members stopped by the Earthquakes office to participate in a phone-a-thon.
SSV members, including President Colin McCarthy, spent the evening speaking with fans who had responded positively to SSV's pledge drive that took place at the end of the 2004 season. That drive sought pledges from fans to purchase 2005 Earthquakes season tickets.
"The members of SSV have demonstrated a passion and loyalty to the Earthquakes that should be the envy for teams around the league," said Earthquakes President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "We consider ourselves a soccer family and as such, we appreciate the efforts and support of all our family members."
Earthquakes SuperDraft picks, Danny O'Rourke and Kevin Goldthwaite, also took time out of their first week of preseason to assist in the phone-a-thon.
Soccer Silicon Valley is a grassroots organization consisting of soccer fans, soccer players, business leaders, and political leaders that aims to make a permanent home for professional and recreational soccer in the Bay Area. It will advocate for the development and construction of a soccer facility, which will permanently house the San Jose Earthquakes, the Bay Area's only professional soccer team, and provide playing fields for the use of the entire soccer playing community in the Bay Area.
