Revolution 3, Fire 0 -- quote sheet

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 3, CHICAGO FIRE 0

Revolution Head Coach Steve Nicol

On tonight's result:
"We were up 2-0 at halftime and we were definitely a better team in the first half. I think the second half was crappy, to say the least. It's nice to get that third goal and kill them off, albeit with 30 seconds to go, but again, congratulations to Taylor [Twellman] for getting his 50th goal."

On why his team is creating scoring chances:
"Because we've got some good players. End of story."

New England Midfielder Clint Dempsey

On tonight's game:
"It was a good game for us because we got three points. We came out and I thought we played better the first half. Second half we were a little comfortable with the lead and sort of just sat back and that allowed them to attack at us. I thought they did a great job in the second half at pressuring us. We got a little unorganized but we were sitting back trying to keep the three points. 'T' [Taylor Twellman] got the equalizer at the end and put the nail in the coffin. It's a good thing for us because in the past we haven't started out well and so far we've got three wins and one tie so we are happy with that."

On what Steve Nicol said to the team prior to tonight's match:
"He wanted us to get off on the get go because in the past we have a history of just playing bad here. We come here and we're just static - we really don't move. He just said that make sure when you get out there just really go at them, so we did a good job the first half of doing that. We got the two goals and sort of sat back in the second half. I think Steve's [Nicol] pleased with our performance."

On his goal tonight:
"It was a good ball put in. I just tried to get a touch on it before the defender could and fortunately my touch went straight in front of me in the air - the ball was kind of lobbed in front of me. I just wanted to get it on frame because earlier I had a shot, a volley like that went over the goal and I was looking to put it on target, and was able to get a good goal."

Revolution Forward Taylor Twellman

On tonight's game:

"I think the wind was a big factor; we knew it was going to be a scrappy game and I think first and foremost you have to give the defense and midfield a ton of credit. They didn't have much of anything and they stayed compact and we scored three goals."

On how it felt to score his 50th career goal:
"It was nice. It's been a long year and a half for me just with injuries and stuff. It was nice to finally get that off my back. It was the 94th minute and after I beat the guy on the right, I just wanted to somehow get a shot off. I felt like I didn't have many chances tonight and I wanted to get one."

Fire Head Coach Dave Sarachan

On his team's play:
"Well, this wasn't the result we were looking for. Frankly, New England was the better team and we had a poor first half, very poor. We put ourselves in a hole. I don't think they had more than a couple shots in the first half, but when two go in and you go in at halftime 2-0 at home, that's not the way you expect to come in to this game. They were just beating us to every ball in the first half and the second half I think we responded, we just couldn't get goals. We got in their end for most of the half, and at the end of the day we were second best today."

Chicago Fire Captain Chris Armas

On tonight's loss:
"We're pretty disappointed at home; a big opportunity tonight, we disappointed ourselves. They capitalized on their two chances in the first half and we had to play catch up and they got a late one. I thought we had more than enough chances to get back in it. Credit them, they came on the road and got the job done."
