The Los Angeles Galaxy reserves (4-0-0, 12 pts.) defeated CD Chivas USA reserves (1-4-0, 3 pts.), 2-1, to remain undefeated in reserve league play on Sunday morning at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. Los Angeles earned the victory on goals from MID Ned Grabavoy and MID Mamba Chisoni, while Chivas' lone goal came from FWD Matt Taylor.
The Galaxy's Grabavoy opened the scoring for the club with a clinical finish of a penalty kick in the 30th minute. The Galaxy earned the opportunity following a well placed through ball from MID Herculez Gomez into the top of the box for MID Mamba Chisoni. Dribbling in the box, Chisoni was taken down from behind to earn the penalty kick.
Los Angeles added to its lead in the 49th minute to go up 2-0. MID Josh Gardner slipped a pass in behind the Chivas defense for a cutting Chisoni, who blasted a low shot beating Chivas GK Brad Guzan at the far post.
However, Chivas would battle back in the 54th minute to pull themselves within a goal at 2-1. Chivas' Taylor broke free in the box, but was fouled by Galaxy DEF Troy Roberts. Taylor would step up to take the spot kick, hitting a low shot up the middle as Galaxy GK Steve Cronin to his left.
Despite a number of close plays from both sides, the Galaxy controlled the remainder of the match and would hold on for the 2-1 victory.
