Report: D.C. to sign defender Erpen

After a trip to Argentina some time ago in search of new faces in the club's defense, D.C. United has reached agreement to sign defender Facundo Erpen from second division club Talleres de Cordoba in Argentina, Telemundo Telenoticias 64 in Washington reported Monday.

Erpen is a 22-year-old central defender who began his career with Club Juventud Unida de Entre Rios, a province located 125 miles from Buenos Aires and the birthplace of the defender. The team had no comment.

Erpen later moved to Boca Juniors where he played in the club's youth divisions from 1999 to 2000, after which he moved to Talleres de Cordoba where he was a starter and played there through last season, which ended just a few weeks ago.

Born May 19, 1983, Erpen is considered a player with good technical ability, strong and a lot of energy. He is also very good in the air, a good header of the ball in both his own end as well as in the opposition's danger area. He is 5-foot-11, 160 pounds and is right-footed.
