Real Salt Lake blanks Beira Mar 4-0

Jamie Watson scored twice on Tuesday.

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake, Major League Soccer's 12th team, collected another preseason victory today with a 4-0 win over Beira Mar Algarve, a Portuguese Second Division team. Goals from FW Jamie Watson (16th/65th minute), MF Kevin Novak (19th minute) and MF Luke Kreamalmeyer (70th minute) provided the scoring, leading RSL to a 5-1-1 preseason record. Tomorrow, RSL faces Portimonense of the Portuguese Second Division.

"Overall, the game went very well and several of our young players saw 90 minutes of action," said Head Coach John Ellinger. "Beira Mar Algarve is a very talented team with a lot of youth, and our guys played extremely well as a cohesive unit, allowing us to essentially dominate the game."
Today's RSL lineup was as follows:
GK - Palmer (Nolly 46); DF - Flores, Knowles, Behncke, Jackson; MF - Whitfield, Kreamalmeyer, Kamler (Pierce 46), Novak; FW - Watson (Cutler 76), Cila
Real Salt Lake's first goal came as MF Evan Whitfield sent a through ball into the box in the 16th minute to Watson, who beat the 'keeper at the near post. Just three minutes later, MF Novak picked up the second goal for Real off a cross from DF Cameron Knowles. The first half ended with RSL up 2-0.
The second half started much like the first with Watson tallying his second goal of the game. In the 65th minute, Whitfield again played another through ball to Watson, who again beat the 'keeper, this time to the far post. The game's final 4-0 margin came off a chip over the 'keeper just outside the 18 by "Laser Luke" Kreamalmeyer in the 70th minute, off an assist by Watson.
