Rapids release three players

DENVER, CO - The Colorado Rapids announced today that the team will not exercise the contract option on three of last year's players, forward Zizi Roberts and midfielders Darryl Powell and Joey DiGiamarino.

With Powell and Roberts not returning to the team this season, the Black and Blue have opened two senior international roster spots.
With these two open spots, along with the one opened by the retirement of Scottish international John Spencer's -who officially communicated his status to Major League Soccer last month- as well as the extra senior international roster spot that the league added for the upcoming season, Fernando Clavijo has all four senior international rosters spots available for his debut year as the Rapids coach.
Roberts, the Liberian international who played a total of 17 games with the Black and Blue during his two years with the team, scored a total of six goals in his MLS stint.
Powel, the former EPL midfielder, played a total of 18 games with Colorado, adding 1348 minutes during his two seasons with the team.
DiGiamarino, who was signed by the Rapids on June 18, 2004, played a total of eight games with the team, recording one assist in his 413 minutes on the field for the Black and Blue.
