Rapids' Martinez out four weeks

Rey Ángel Martinez

DENVER, Colo. - Colorado Rapids announced Thursday that forward Rey Angel Martinez will be out for at least four weeks with a broken toe in his left foot.

X-rays taken by the team physician yesterday revealed the injury that was sustained during the scrimmage against the Boulder Rapids Reserve on Tuesday night in Boulder.

Martinez, who was acquired by the team 11 days ago, has played two games for the Black and Blue registering one assist, with that coming in the second half of the 1-1 draw with the Dallas Burn at INVESCO Field at Mile High this past Saturday.

The Rapids will start a two-game road trip this Saturday, June 26 when they take on the Columbus Crew at Crew stadium at 5:30 p.m. live on English Radio via KKFN-950 A.M. "The Fan". The team will then remain in Columbus for two days before departing to New Jersey, where they will take on the MetroStars on Wednesday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m. (MT) at Giants Stadium.
