The Colorado Rapids announced today that the team has relieved Tim Hankinson of his head coaching duties and will seek a new head coach for the 2005 season. Hankinson recorded a 39-45-30 mark in his four seasons as the team's head coach and led the club to three postseason appearances.
"We want to thank Tim Hankinson for his dedication and professionalism to the Colorado Rapids during the past four seasons," Colorado Rapids Governor Charlie Wright said. "We decided to go in a different direction as an organization after an extensive internal evaluation."
Hankinson became the third head coach in team history on December 20, 2000 when he was appointed to the position, replacing Glenn "Mooch" Myernick.
"Tim has demonstrated leadership qualities to the highest degree to go along with his wealth of experience. However, we are a team that needs to be a contender for the Cup every year while playing exciting soccer," added Wright. "We need to establish a winning tradition worthy of our passionate Rapids fans, especially as the time nears for us to move into our new soccer specific stadium in Commerce City in 2007."
"Our search for the next Rapids Head Coach will begin immediately," added Wright. "The Soccer Operations department of the team will take the lead in evaluating coaching and player options during the coming weeks."
