MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET

SATURDAY, JUNE 12, 2004 – COLORADO RAPIDS 0, D.C. UNITED 0
D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK:

On the game:
“(We) did everything they could tonight to score, I am proud the team. (We) just did not finish tonight, (we) tried everything (we) could. It wasn’t today. In the locker room the guys are exhausted, they did their best.”

On the fan support:
“I want to thank the crowd they were great today.”

On the dedication of his international players:
“I’m really grateful for Earnie to come back, he played a great game. I am also grateful for Ryan today he went out and gave everything he could.”

D.C. UNITED FORWARD FREDDY ADU:

On the game:
“We dominated the whole game and came up unlucky again. This has been the story of our season so far. We have to turn it around soon. I felt like I did some good things in the game. I feel much more comfortable in a game like this, but things just weren’t going our way. It was a frustrating game for everybody.”

On being called up to the U-20 roster against Brazil:

“It feels great. It always says a lot about your game when you get called up to the National Team, no matter which level.”

D.C. UNITED GOALKEEPER TROY PERKINS:

On his second shutout:

“It feels pretty good. Every time I play, I expect that out of myself, so I don’t get too excited over it. We have to turn around and get ready for a game next week and do the same thing. I’ll do my end of the deal and keep balls out of the back of the net, hopefully we can get one for us.”

On his stoppage-time save in the first half:

“Coming down to the end of the half, you know you’ll have to do something. You always have that one save every game. I just turned and saw the ball coming. It was just a reaction.”

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER BRIAN CARROLL:

On the game:

“A couple of [Colorado’s] players like to cheat a bit forward, so it was hard to dictate the flow in the midfield. We did a little better towards the end. I think we had the better of the game, but the score was 0-0 and we really needed a win tonight.”

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER EARNIE STEWART:

On the team’s performance:

“If we score a goal early, every one stays compact. If we go searching for a goal, like we did in the second half, you sometimes get a little spread out. On the other hand, it’s a good sign that everybody wants to make that goal and try to help the team out. I truly believe that if we go ahead 1-0 or 2-0, that stuff doesn’t happen.”

On playing back-to-back games:

“Health-wise, I’m fine. I feel good, so I’m going to step on that plane tomorrow and if Bruce needs me anywhere, I’m going to give 100 percent.”

COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH TIM HANKINSON:

On the game:

“We took a lot of pressure tonight, though the game was not very successful point-wise. We feel good about that game, as a road game, to get back on our feet.”

On DC United:

“D.C. tested us tonight. They’ve got good qualities no doubt about it.”

On the absence of Mark Chung and others:

“We’re missing Mark Chung, probably for another couple of weeks, this has been our third or fourth game without him, and obviously he is one of our quality players. We’re also missing a lot to National Team duties and it puts a lot of pressure on us to perform.”

On Rey Angel Martinez:

“We are glad to see Rey Martinez, our new signing. It shows he has some individual qualities and he can be the man to make something happen.”

COLORADO RAPIDS GK JOE CANNON:

On the game:

“I thought we had a good defensive effort. We had guys put their hearts into it and we were fortunate to come away with no goals against. We had some good opportunities. It helps to get a good point on the road.”

COLORADO RAPIDS DEFENDER RICHTI KOTSCHAU:

On what the game meant and how it prepares them to play San Jose:

“We had kind of a makeshift backline; it helps to get the point. Tonight we fought well, fought hard, but we still should be unhappy about the way we played."
