Radio America returns for 10th season as Spanish-language radio partner

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today that Radio America (WACA 1540 AM) has been named the club's official Spanish-language radio partner for the 2006 season, the tenth season the popular station will carry United matches. As part of the agreement, all 32 United regular season games will be broadcast live on Radio America and on the United Spanish Radio Network (affiliated stations to be determined). Radio America can be heard over the Internet at www.radioamerica.net.


"We are very excited to once again be part of the D.C. United family," stated Alejandro Carrasco, Radio America President. "We are also happy to announce the arrival of Mr. Carlos Osorio, our new play-by-play announcer who comes to us from his native El Salvador where he accumulated over forty years of experience in the world of soccer."


"We are proud of the tremendous relationship we've built with Radio America through the years," said United Senior Vice President Stephen Zack. "With the addition of Carlos Osorio, we feel that our broadcasts will resonate with United supporters tuning in from all over the world."


Osorio joins Radio America's broadcast team from El Salvador's YSKL radio station, where he spent the last 25 years as host and commentator of the popular "Gol de KL" soccer program. Recognized with numerous awards as one of the top sports broadcasters in El Salvador, Osorio is better known to listeners as "Escopeta" (Rifle) for his booming voice and his ability to quickly narrate the action on the field. Osorio began his broadcast career in 1963 and since has broadcast nine World Cup finals (1970-2002) and the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City.


Joining Osorio in the booth will be radio personality Danilo Noel Dirón, who enters his 10th season providing color commentary on United's Spanish-language broadcasts. Diron, a native of Uruguay who hosts "La Mesa Redonda del Fútbol"(Round Table), a daily soccer-only show that airs on Radio America, has called over 300 D.C. United games over his career. Wilson Romero, a panelist on La Mesa Redonda del Fútbol, will be the sideline reporter.
