MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20, 2005 - SAN JOSE EARTHQAKES 2, COLORADO RAPIDS 1
COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the the motivation within the team:
"There's a mentality, and attitude that is a key for winning games. Consistency is also key, and we play a hard one (game), then not. We win two then lose one, and so on. We need to find a balance. If we are going to do well and make it to the playoffs and make a good run at the championship then we need to find out what is going on. And I need to find out which guys are going to come out and play hard every game because some guys are not doing it, it is an unfortunate situation."

On his game plan and substitutions:
"We didn't take [Jeff] Cunningham out because of an energy factor, we have people on the bench that we feel comfortable with. I think that we have a good roster that can come in at any time and we trust them. We put Wolde Harris in there to see if we could add a spark."

On San Jose's goals:
"The biggest thing is that we didn't get down there quick enough, there was too much space in front of us and behind us. By the time we got going, it was too late. It was one of those things where we never came out to play until the last 20 minutes and it was probably too late."

On forward Fabrice Noel:
"You see in him a kid that demands the ball and wants to play. He added a spark because that was not the case before; everybody was running away from the ball. I had to give an opportunity to somebody who wants it, somebody who is willing to rush the ball. I have a responsibility to a younger player who is willing to play, as I said before, we have a roster spot and we need to use it. I was very pleased with the way he played."

COLORADO RAPIDS FORWARD FABRICE NOEL

On his MLS debut:
"I feel great. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and today they gave it to me. I wanted to do everything that I could do to give us a chance to win."

On his style of play:
"I feel really good with the ball on my feet and I am not scared of anybody. I feel the best when the ball is on my feet as much as possible.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:
"All in all the team held together great tonight. We moved the ball around well and we could have scored even more goals. Overall, the guys were excellent tonight. I am really proud of the effort, especially coming at the end of a lot of travel."

On the team's four-game road trip:
"Looking back at these four games with the conditions and the travel, we are very happy to finish 2-1-1. We played well in Columbus and we played well again tonight. Last week we struggled against D.C., but tonight I think that we deserved to win and we are glad to get three points here."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER MARK CHUNG

On scoring against his former team:
"It feels great. On this team, the goals seem to come from everywhere, the forwards, the backs and tonight it was the midfield with Brian (Mullan) and me. It is really hard to defend us because we attack from everywhere. Today just happened to be my day."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER BRIAN MULLAN

On the team effort:
"You have to give the guys on this team credit because everyone fights and works hard every game. We came out well tonight and we took it to them. It was just a great game all around and we got an important three points."

On his goal:
"That is the first time I have been able to score coming back to my hometown, so that was great. I just got the ball and made a fake to the inside and luckily Ritchie Kotschau bit and I was able to get the shot past Joe (Cannon)."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER WADE BARRETT

On the game:
"This was huge for us tonight, especially coming off last week's game against D.C. It was a quick turnaround to play tonight so it was fantastic to get the win and keep moving up the standings."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER DWAYNE DE ROSARIO

On looking ahead to the game vs. the MetroStars:
"We are looking forward to the game this weekend. We have a lot of confidence going into the game and we definitely want to get three points out of it."
