Quarterfinal draw for 2006 Champions' Cup complete

CONCACAF today unveiled the complete quarterfinal home-and-away series fixtures for the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup with the opening games scheduled for 22 February and the return matches set for 8 March.

Quarterfinal pairings were determined by a draw conducted today during the CONCACAF Executive Committee Meeting in New York City.

The 2005 Mexican Torneo de Clausura Winner, Club América, will travel to face the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Champion (which will be determined in December) in the first-leg of the Quarterfinal (QF) Series 1, while the second encounter is set for Mexico.

The QF Series 2 has the USA's Major League Soccer 2005 Runners-up, New England Revolution, visiting Costa Rica's LD Alajuelense of the Union Centroamericana de Fútbol (UNCAF), in Alajuela for the opening-leg, with the second-leg being a home game for the Revolution.

CD Olímpia of Honduras will host the 2005 Mexican Torneo de Apertura Winner, in the first-leg of the QF Series 3, while the second-leg will take place in Mexico.

The QF Series 4 will feature the 2005 MLS Champions Los Angeles Galaxy hosting the winner of the series between Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) and Municipal Pérez Zeledón (CRC), in the opening-leg, while the second match will be held in Costa Rica.

The quarterfinal winners will advance to the Champions' Cup Semifinal Series scheduled for 22 and 29 March.

The Semifinal Series victors will play for the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup on 12 & 19 April, with the winner also qualifying to the FIFA Club World Championship in Japan next year. The Champions' Cup Runner-up will be one of the three CONCACAF invitees to the 2006 Copa Nissan Sudamericana.

Meanwhile, the defending CONCACAF Champions' Cup winner, Deportivo Saprissa, will face the world's best in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship to be held in Japan next month.

The 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup will be broadcast on television by the FoxSports International regional programming channels (Fox Soccer Channel USA; FoxSports en Español USA; Fox Sports Latin America Northern Cone Caribbean, Central America & Mexico).

The CONCACAF Champions' Cup is the longest running international club competition in the region and has crowned the champion club of the Confederation since its inception in 1962.
