Quakes 2, FC Dallas 0 -- quote sheet

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2005 - SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 2, FC DALLAS 0

FC DALLAS HEAD COACH COLIN CLARKE

On the result:
"(The first goal) changes the game doesn't it, coming out like that in the second half. I thought that the first half was pretty even, they had the one chance where (Ricardo) Clark got through, and we had two or three opportunities that were close. We just need one of them to go to give you a lift and a boost, but that just didn't happen tonight."

On the return of Eddie Johnson:
"(I didn't know until) this morning. We were happy to have him back; he gave us a boost and a lift. We worked on a few different things during the week but having him was only a positive."

On what he said to the team following the game:
"We need to stick together and hang tough. It's not a good situation that we're going through, but we're only going to come out of it together. We just have to keep believing that it's going to happen."

FC DALLAS MIDFIELDER MARK WILSON

On the result:

"It's disappointing, but we're all going to have to stick together and we'll come out of this okay."

On the team's recent run of form:
"There are some problems to be worked out between ourselves in the dressing room, and we will do that. It's a great bunch of lads, there is plenty of ability in there, plenty of talent and we'll scrap and fight our way out of this."

FC DALLAS FORWARD EDDIE JOHNSON

On his decision to return for tonight's game:

"Bruce (Arena) came up to me at breakfast today and told me that I wasn't going to be in the 18 (man roster) but that he wanted me for the Guatemala game. So I asked him if I could come back and play for my team and he said that wasn't a problem. So I got on a plane and got out here this afternoon."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On his team's current winning streak:

"Obviously, you want to peak when you hit the playoffs. I think we are playing very well right now; we are very tough to beat. We are taking our chances and that was a great road victory tonight. We held the ball, and when you have chances, you must execute on them. Tonight, we were very efficient."

On his defense playing well:
"Yeah, they did. I took Eddie (Robinson) out of the game 60 minutes in, but Ryan (Cochrane) was playing well for us recently and he did again tonight. Defensively, it's not just the back line, it's the top players providing pressure and the midfielders eliminating plays. The entire 11 is playing well right now."

On the win:
"I told the guys to give themselves a round of applause in the locker room because they were so good tonight. They held together so well. We didn't give up too many great chances and the chances we got, we converted. I felt when we had the ball, we played smartly. Ronald's (Cerritos) finish was excellent. Alejandro (Moreno) took his chance well. It was a very efficient performance tonight. "

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On the result:

"I thought the guys played great, especially in the second half when we scored two goals. We got two great chances and scored two great goals. After that, it was a clinical performance. We kept the ball and made it very difficult for them to come back into the game. We really limited their opportunities. It was a fantastic performance tonight."

On the first half:
"I should have done better; I think I relaxed a little. The ball was close to going in. We were lucky, but when you are playing well, you are going to get lucky once in a while."

On his defense:
"We have a great defending team. I've said it before, your defense is part of your goalkeeper stats. I think the guys have done fantastic in front. Tonight, all five guys came up, played great, and limited their opportunities."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD BRIAN CHING

On the team's run:

"It feels great, to be back on the field again and to help out the guys at the end of the game. It's a great win; we put a lot of distance between ourselves and Dallas. Hopefully, we can continue this and keep rolling to the Playoffs. "

On his return from injury:
"The team is playing well right now. I can't say enough about the performance they put in tonight. It was a hot and muggy night and it was tough moving around. After twenty minutes out there, I was sucking wind. I can't imagine what those guys were feeling out there throughout the whole game."
