Over a thousand Houston fans came out to pick their seats and meet the players

HOUSTON - Houston 1836 players and its coaching staff took a break Sunday afternoon from their preseason training to meet the fans and sign autographs at their future home, the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium.


        Over a thousand fans showed up to "Pick Their Seats" at Robertson Stadium, ton Sunday, February 26, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., as the upcoming home opener approaches, on April 2, at 6:30 p.m. CT, against the Colorado Rapids.</p>


        Houston 1836 players received a warm welcome from entire families who chose to spend their Sunday afternoon surrounded by their stars.


"We are excited and waiting for the season to begin", said Houston fan, Todd Hall.


        "We started to follow Brian Ching since he was on the U.S. National Team.  We are very excited to have soccer in Houston", said Hall.</p>


        The players, who are getting ready to leave for LA for a series of preseason matches, and Head Coach Dominic Kinnear, were pleased to see their new home and share that experience with their fans.</p>


        "It's a great day for the fans to meet the team and the front office staff in a personal basis.  It's a good step to build a strong bond and relationship with our fans", said Kinnear.</p>


        "Fans are used to always seeing their players in the field, and for them to have this close contact with the players, it's just a unique experience", said Kinnear.</p>


        Houston 1836 players took time off their day to chat with fans and sign Houston 1836 gear and soccer balls.  Others were as excited to take a look at the seats for the upcoming 2006 regular season.</p>


        "I wanted to see the seats.  Since the MLS has been going, I've watched a total of three games.  But to watch soccer, you have to do it live.  And beginning in April, I'm going to be able to do exactly that", said Ray Gallegos, Houston fan.</p>


        "Before I had to go Monterrey to watch my team (Tigres de la UANL), but now I can do it right here; every Saturday", said Gallegos.</p>


        Season ticket holders as well as prospective season ticket holders got one on one assistance from the entire Houston 1836 sales and operations staff as they prepare for an exciting home opener on April 2.</p>
