and seventh including MLS Cup playoff games -- Noonan has scored against the MetroStars. But Cornell Glen ran onto a perfect Mark Lisi through ball that split the Rev defense 11 minutes into the second half to pull Metro level with his third goal of the season.
Despite sharing the points, the Revolution extended their unbeaten streak against the MetroStars to nine games in league and MLS Cup competition.
In Denver, the Colorado Rapids extended their home unbeaten run to 16 matches, dating back to last May, surpassing the league mark held by San Jose Earthquakes with their victory against D.C. United. Zizi Roberts put the home side ahead after 13 minutes when he redirected home a terrific overhead kick from Jean-Philippe Peguero.
Josh Gros brought United level two minutes after the halftime break with his first professional goal, hammering home a rolling cross played through the area from Earnie Stewart. But it took Colorado just four minutes to answer, Peguero diving to head home a Mark Chung knockdown of a deep Chris Henderson cross from the right corner. For Henderson, the assist gave him the Colorado Rapids all-time scoring lead with 101 points.
For the second time in four days the Los Angeles Galaxy were involved in a 4-2 match on Saturday, this time falling to the San Jose Earthquakes at Spartan Stadium.
The Quakes jumped out to a 3-0 lead shortly after the halftime interval, thanks largely to a pair of goals from Brian Ching. He first headed home a corner just before the break, then knocked home a Dwayne De Rosario cross with his chest from close range three minutes after the restart. Then in the 54th minute, Brian Mullan ripped a drive on the run from inside the area to triple the lead.
But the Galaxy, the league's most prolific attack this season, mounted a furious comeback. First Andreas Herzog collected a Joseph Ngwenya cross before firing home from 15 yards (61), then the Zimbabwean rookie hit for his second goal in as many matches, heading home a Ned Grabavoy free kick.
Yet just five minutes later the Quakes responded, De Rosario dancing through a host of Galaxy defenders from the left touchline before beating Kevin Hartman inside his near post to round out the scoring.
On Wednesday, the Galaxy won for the second consecutive match on the road, defeating D.C. United 4-2 at RFK Stadium. A hat trick within eight minutes in the first half by Alejandro Moreno -- answered in the second half by a wonderful goal from Freddy Adu -- gave the visitors a resounding victory in their first match without league-leading striker Carlos Ruiz.
Moreno's hat trick -- all three goals set up by Andreas Herzog -- was the second-fastest in MLS history. First, in the 35th minute, he took a couple of stabs at a Herzog corner before finally pushing it over the line from close range. Then he raced on to a wonderful long ball from Herzog played down the left flank (39), getting in behind his marker before beating United 'keeper Nick Rimando through his legs from a tight angle.
Then four minutes later, Herzog delivered a pinpoint cross from the left touchline to Moreno cutting across the face of goal, and he deftly flicked the ball inside Rimando's left post.
The eight-minute span marked the second-fastest hat trick in MLS history, only to another Galaxy performance, when Harut Karapetyan scored three goals in five minutes in a Los Angeles 8-1 victory at Dallas on June 4, 1998. In addition, for Moreno, it was five goals on five consecutive shots (including his first two goals this season), the first player in MLS history to achieve that feat.
But United answered just before the break when Ronald Cerritos curled in a blistering drive from the top of box, then midway through the second half, Adu gave the RFK faithful a glimpse of his supreme talents with a superb strike of his own. Collecting the ball on the right flank, he cut inside and went on a brilliant individual run through the Galaxy penalty area, faking several defenders before depositing the ball in the top left corner with a left-footed strike.
At Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, the league's stoutest defense in the Kansas City Wizards once again held firm, taking advantage of two goals in a seven-minute span in the second half to claim a 2-0 victory against the Dallas Burn.
Jack Jewsbury scored his first professional goal, stabbing home a Josh Wolff cross in the 60th minute to give the Wizards the lead, then seven minutes later, Wolff pounced on a deflected cross to drive home a shot from just inside the area to double the home side's lead.
Wizards goalkeeper Tony Meola made a pair of good saves in the final minutes to add to his MLS record shutout total as Kansas City posted their fourth clean sheet in seven matches, the Burn losing for the third consecutive match after a bright start to the 2004 season.
