The Los Angeles Galaxy will crown Miss L.A. Galaxy 2005, in a competition presented by Cover Girl, this Sunday evening, October 10, at the Carson Center, the club announced today. The competition will begin at 7 pm (PT) that evening.

The Miss L.A. Galaxy contest was created to recognize the females who are involved in their community, support community soccer and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Sunday's winner will be chosen based on her poise, confidence, public speaking abilities and academic success.

The Miss LA Galaxy contest consists of nine (9) finalists who were selected for their personal accomplishments, service to the community, and academic success.

The nine young women competing for the top prize are: Melissa Boroff, Kaela Dianat, Leslie Gomez, Amanda Linholm, Cynthia P. Millsaps, Regina Mangieri, Erika Von Plato, Nikki Ware and Melissa Wetjen.

Judges for the third annual contest will include: Galaxy defender Ryan Suarez, Joy Mead of Cover Girl, John Mathew of the Carson Hilton, German Gonzalez of Tienda de Pedro and Guinness Book of World Record holder Tasha-Nicole Terani. Galaxy fans are encouraged to get to know the contestants and cast their vote for their favorite Miss LA Galaxy 2005 Finalist by going to www.lagalaxy.com beginning Thursday, October 7 at 11 am (PT) until Friday, October 8 at 5 pm.

The contest will consist of a sportswear competition, a segment where the contestants are asked Galaxy-specific trivia questions, and a formalwear competition that includes a personal interview.

The reigning Miss L.A. Galaxy, Marcella Prieto, will also be in attendance. During her year's reign the recent Harvard University graduate has done a great deal on behalf of the club throughout the Southland, including: outreach efforts, media appearances and meeting with Galaxy fans. In appreciation of her outstanding efforts, the Galaxy will be hosting Ms. Prieto and three guests for a complimentary dinner in the Stadium Club at the Galaxy's first 2004 MLS Cup Playoff match.

The Galaxy will conclude their 2004 home regular season schedule at The Home Depot Center against the Dallas Burn on Saturday, October 9 at 7pm. In addition to what promises to be an exciting evening of soccer, fans attending the match will be treated a post-game fireworks spectacular, presented by the Daily Breeze and Capri Sun. Additionally, the club will be giving away 5,000 water bottles, courtesy of Gatorade. They will also be distributing 5,000 Kraft padfolios to children 16-years-old and younger.
