SECAUCUS, N.J. - MetroStars defender Chris Leitch underwent a successful procedure yesterday in Munich, Germany to repair an inguinal hernia injury or "sports hernia". Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck performed a Minimal Repair Technique on the three-year veteran, which is a procedure developed and performed exclusively by Dr. Muschaweck. Muschaweck has performed this same procedure on over 1500 athletes.

The MetroStars sent Leitch to see the specialist after the player complained of discomfort during preseason workouts.

The Baltimore, OH native and University of North Carolina product, had his most successful professional season in 2004, as he led the MetroStars in minutes played, and was awarded the 2004 Metrostars Iron Man award.

Currently, there is no timetable for the 25-year old defender's return. He is scheduled to return to New Jersey and rehab on his own, and then accompany the team on their trip to Ecuador later in the month.
