MetroStars clarify Guevara situation

On Thursday, the MetroStars front office released the following statement regarding star midfielder Amado Guevara:

"Due to incorrect information distributed today by various news agencies claiming the departure of Amado Guevara to Club Motagua of Honduras and his departure from Major League Soccer, the MetroStars today officially announce the following:

Amado Guevara continues to be under contract with the MetroStars and MLS.

Similar to last year, negotiations are underway that would grant permission for the player to train with the club Motagua at the conclusion the current 2004 MLS season (MLS Cup will be played on Nov. 14). However, at the moment no agreement has been reached.

The intention of our organization is to present the player possibilities to continue training with another club during the MLS offseason, stay active until the beginning of February, and return for the preseason with the MetroStars."

Guevara is currently with the Honduran National Team in preparations for CONCACAF World Cup qualifying games on Sept. 4 and 8. The MetroStars' and MLS' leading scorer will return to the club in time for the Sept. 11 game versus the New England Revolution.
