MetroStars: The big questions

Johnson already waived many of last year's reserves in Eric Quill, Chris Corcoran, Daniel Garipe, Ryan Suarez, Ramon Bailey and third-string 'keeper Mike Ueltschey -- it is not surprising he declined to answer this question.

WHAT AREA OF THE TEAM NEEDS THE MOST IMPROVEMENT?

It might be easier to ask what area doesn't need improvement. Ageless Tony Meola had a great second half of the season and will be in goal when the Metros open the 2005 season at D.C. United Apr. 2. Jon Conway will be his backup and if Wells tests the waters oversees -- as he reportedly will -- the Metros will need to find a third-string keeper, possibly through the draft.

After that, it's a free-for-all.

"We need help in the back, in the midfield and we need another striker," Johnston said. "We need help in every department."
