MetroStars and Kearny Federal Savings Bank present H.S. Kick-Off Classic on Sept. 11

Sergio Galvan Rey and Sharlie Joseph will square off in the night's second match.

SECAUCUS, N.J. - The MetroStars and Kearny Federal Savings Bank are proud to announce the second annual KFSB Kick-Off Classic. In this year's match-up, 2003 North I-3 champion Ramapo H.S. will face North II-2 champs Harrison H.S. at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be played at Giants Stadium and precede the 6 p.m. contest between the MetroStars and Eastern Conference rivals, the New England Revolution.

This event will not only draw attention to the start of these premier high school teams' 2004 seasons, but will also strengthen the relationship between the high school and professional levels of area soccer.

"All of our players are excited about the opportunity to play in the Meadowlands," Ramapo head coach Evan Baumgarten noted. "It is truly a once in a lifetime experience for any high school student athlete as it creates closer bonds between both levels of the sport, something that cannot be equaled."

"Soccer has always served as a common bond for all ethnic groups. People from numerous backgrounds are able to assimilate into one community while playing the game," added Harrison H.S. athletic director Jack Rodgers. "This event will enhance this aspect of the sport even more as it draws two communities together along with a professional team."

The MetroStars (9-9-6) are looking to rebound from their 1-0 loss to Kansas City last Saturday, as they dropped one point below Columbus for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. New England (5-10-9) is currently in last place in the conference with 24 points, however they currently have a 10-game unbeaten streak against the MetroStars.

Tickets for the KFSB Kick-Off Classic and MetroStars doubleheader will be available to students for $12 and can be purchased at Ramapo H.S. or Harrison H.S. Other tickets are available at $24 for gold sections, $18 for silver sections and can be purchased by contacting MetroStars representative Mike Quarino at (201) 583-7018.
