Metros set for top-of-the-table clash

Attention fans: Soccerfest has been moved from the Verizon Wireless Bubble to the parking lot at Gate D adjacent to the Caribbean Heritage Festival. The Guatemalan Heritage Festival will now be located inside the Verizon Wireless Bubble.

Although there is only one MLS game taking place this Sunday, it will be one of the most anticipated matches of the season when Western Conference front-runners, the Los Angeles Galaxy, come to the Meadowlands to take on the Eastern Conference-leading MetroStars.

Although the Galaxy have the most points in the league, the MetroStars have already earned six points against them this season with 2-1 and 3-0 wins on June 19 and 23 respectively. Since then however, the Galaxy have been on a hot streak, going unbeaten in six consecutive league games. Especially dangerous are strike duo Carlos Ruiz (leading the league in points per game with 1.57) and Jovan Kirovski, who have a combined 16 goals this season.

The MetroStars will be undeterred by the Galaxy threat as they hope to broom their opponents aside with a season sweep. The "Red and Black" themselves are riding a four-game unbeaten streak - a run which has included key wins over San Jose, Chicago and Kansas City. In addition, when playing against the two top teams in the Western Conference (Kansas City and Los Angeles), the MetroStars are 4-0-0.

MetroStar Amado Guevara, one of the hottest players in the league, will be leading the MetroStars into battle. Leading the MLS Budweiser Scoring race with 25 points, Guevara has earned at least a point in eight consecutive league games (the second longest streak of its kind this season is four). The Honduran also starred on national television in last Saturday's Sierra Mist All-Star Game, scoring two goals and adding one assist to earn the Honda Most Valuable Player award.

Guevara, fellow teammates and MLS All-Stars Eddie Gaven and Eddie Pope and the rest of the "Red and Black" will be ready on Sunday to battle Ruiz, Kirovski and the rest of the Galaxy in a match that should not be missed.

Tickets are available for all MetroStars home games at the Continental Airlines Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets will also be available through Ticketmaster by phone for callers in New Jersey (201-507-8900), New York (212-307-7171), and for Spanish-speaking customers throughout New York and New Jersey (212-307-4757).
