You were a member of the Colorado Rapids earlier this year before being traded to the Earthquakes on May 20. How did it feel to score against your former team and win?
Mark Chung:
"Scoring that goal felt good and everything, coming back here. But the most important thing is that we won. We've done well for seven or eight games, but we lost one in D.C. Everyone was tired from traveling and so to mentally come back and win here in Colorado is always hard. We're not bowing our heads yet. We have a game on Saturday against the MetroStars at home. So we have one more job to do before we get our All-Star break."
Describe the development of the play that you scored on from Dwayne De Rosario's pass in the 73rd minute.
MC: "I was running down the left side and De Rosario was attacking from the right side and I got myself open. He switched the ball to me and I first-time hit it to the other post. I hit one like that earlier and Joe (Cannon) saved it, so I had to get another chance."
How do you feel the Earthquakes played on Wednesday against the Rapids following the recent loss to D.C. United?
MC: "The team played well together. We knocked the ball around, which is very important in this heat and altitude. Coming back from D.C.'s loss and beating Colorado is a good booster for us. But Saturday we have another game against the MetroStars, so we have to get our rest and get ready for that."
Can you talk a little bit about what happened in the 3-0 loss to United in Washington D.C. last Friday?
MC: "The thing about this team is we never bow our heads. We know that we can play and we know that we play the ball on the ground to let the ball do the work. That loss, it happens. Every team loses. We have traveled back and forth across the country twice in the last two weeks. Traveling to the East Coast is tough for us being out on the West Coast because you have to go two days early. It takes a whole day to get somewhere. So taking that extra day definitely can take the steam out of everybody."
Is it tough facing your former teammate and Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon?
MC: "He's a good goalkeeper. You just have to keep shooting and something's gotta go in. He had an excellent save on a shot I took earlier in the match, a one-hander. I thought it was going in. I didn't want Joe to do that again, so I went to the other post the next time. But you just have to keep shooting against him."
Coming off of the four-game road trip, how is the team feeling energy-wise for the game on Saturday?
MC: "Great. We all know that we have a week off after Saturday's game, so I think everyone wants to go into that week strong. Everyone's definitely ready to play and I think we can beat the MetroStars for sure."
The Quakes are only three points behind FC Dallas right now, so they have a chance to reach first place with a win on Saturday. How important is it to win this weekend at home to keep the pressure on Dallas?
MC: "It's definitely great to be back at home. We always want to win all of our games at home. When we're away we go for the three points as well, but home field, it's good. We all feel rested. Going into this weekend's game and chasing down FC Dallas in the standings is our focus."
