Man of the Match Q&A: Brian Ching

Brian Ching

You now have scored a goal or registered an assist in every Quakes game this season. What do you think are some of the reasons for your early season success?

I think that we are a good team. We have done well going forward, so that has helped me have some success. I also think that the quality of the service has been very good from the wings. Brad (Davis) and Brian (Mullan) have played in dangerous balls.

The Quakes finished 1-1-3 in the first month of the year, what is your assessment of the Quakes through their first five games?

I think that we have done okay so far, but we definitely need to improve in certain areas. We have done well going forward and scoring goals, but we have to clean up some of our mistakes to be more successful. I think that we can do that.

How do you feel you have been able to adjust to playing with Ronald Cerritos, Alejandro Moreno and Dwayne De Rosario in a different role?

I feel comfortable playing with all of them. Dwayne has given us a good spark the last two games. He plays a little closer to the forwards so it has been easy to combine with him. Ronald and Alejandro are both great guys to play with because they work hard and create chances in front of goal. I enjoy playing with both of them.

What do you think were the some of the positives that the Quakes can take away from Saturday's 2-2 tie?

We created a lot of chances and we could have even scored more goals. I think that we were able to move the ball very well. I also am proud that the team was able to come back from those two quick goals in the first half and tie the score in the second half. We have shown this year that we do not put our heads down when we get behind. We dig in and fight our way back into the game.

It seems like the Quakes have seen several close opportunities to turn the three ties into wins this season. How frustrating has it been to not get those points and what do you feel needs to be done to earn victories later in the season?

It has been frustrating so far. We feel like we could have more points right now, but we have to look at the positives. We are moving the ball well and playing good soccer. I think that the team has to focus on cutting down on mistakes. That will make us a better team.

Look ahead to the MetroStars game. What do you guys need to do to get the win this weekend?

We just need to play our game and keep creating chances to score goals. If we do that and limit their chances, I think that we will be fine. They scored three goals last weekend, so we know that they can be dangerous offensively. Hopefully, we can shut them down and come out with three points.
