League owners complete meetings

Major League Soccer convened a Board of Governors meeting from June 6-7 at the Anschutz Ranch in Colorado.


A wide range of strategic issues were discussed during the meetings with the goal of furthering the momentum developed in recent years and ensuring short-term growth and long-term success of the League during the next 10 years.


Among the items on the agenda:


• competition matters;


• international strategy;


• future expansion plans;


• discussion of the League's broadcast strategy as it begins renewal discussions with its broadcast partners;


• discussion of commercial guidelines with the intent to provide incentives for teams as they build new stadiums.


Plans will be finalized in the near future with details unveiled at the Commissioner's State of the League Address on Friday, July 29 during the 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The next set of owners meetings will be scheduled around the All-Star break.


The 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game will feature the MLS All-Stars taking on English Premier League club Fulham on Saturday, July 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET (live on ABC Sports).
