Latin recording artist Perez 'strikes a nerve' among Latino families

Thanks to the bilingual urban regional hybrid track "Estoy Enamorada," 20-year-old Yolanda Perez is riding high on Billboard's music charts by reaching No. 7 on 'Regional Mexican Airplay' and Top 30 on 'Top Latin Albums' registering sales of more than 100,000 units and still going strong of her debut album on Fonovisa Records titled "Dejenme Llorar" (Let Me Cry) and only Latin artist (female or male) to have scored an Urban Regional hit nationwide.

The radio hit "Estoy Enamorada" (I'm In Love) is a quirky track that talks about an overprotective traditional Mexican father 'Don Cheto' (performed by a popular L.A. based on air personality) and his Americanized daughter (Yolanda), provoking a confrontation questioning her coming of age in the United States.

Yolanda Perez 'strikes a nerve among Latino families' with "Estoy Enamorada", according to a recent story published in a recent ground breaking interview on the Los Angeles Times (March 7, 2004). The story titled "Starmaker" features renowned L.A. based songwriter Pepe Garza (credited for discovering new talent) points out who is 'the next big thing'; Yolanda Perez a young sleek and sassy Mexican American for whom he wrote the song "Estoy Enamorada".

The song was first performed live by Yolanda Perez and 'Don Cheto' last December at a Regional Mexican awards show held at the Universal Amphitheater generating an instant craze. The response ignited by this song is a mere reflection of a new generation of Latino youth that is growing up in a bi-cultural world hungry for music that speaks to their emotions and upbringing.

The album showcases her strong vocal abilities with romantic overtones. Traditional and modern styles are used on the 10 tracks that also includes the English rhythm & blues classic "You'll Lose A Good Thing," in addition to offering traditional Regional Mexican sounds of banda, ranchero and corridos. The rapid impact has been enormous on Yolanda Perez who is already working through a rather tight schedule traveling throughout the U.S. conducting television interviews on top rated shows like 'Sabado Gigante', 'Don Francisco Presenta,' 'Despierta America', plus a slew of national radio and press interviews.

Born in Los Angeles to parents who are from Zacatecas, Mexico, Yolanda Perez has been performing in Southern California and in her parent's native town since age 9. (More)
