Gomez undergoes successful hernia surgery

Christian Gomez will be back on his feet in no time.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today Christian Gomez has bilateral hernia repair this week in Munich, Germany. Gomez, who was diagnosed with iguinal hernias, underwent procedures on both the left and right abdominal walls. Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, a specialist who has performed this particular surgery on more than 1,000 professional soccer players worldwide, performed the same surgery earlier in the year on defender Bryan Namoff. Gomez's recovery will take two-to-three weeks and the midfielder will be ready for the beginning of the 2006 pre-season.

"We are pleased Christian's surgery was a success and we look forward to having him back at full strength for the start of our pre-season in 2006," said United Technical Director, Dave Kasper.

Gomez joined United in August of 2004, playing a large role in helping United to the Mls Cup championship. In 2005, he was named to the MLS Best XI after scoring 11 goals and dishing out nine assists. He missed only one game during the season and tied for the most starts on the team (30) with Brian Carroll. He also tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals and was named mid-season as a 2005 All-Star.
