KIROVSKI VOTED HONDA MLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

L.A. Galaxy forward Jovan Kirovski was named Honda MLS Player of the Week by the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA) for the week ending May 8, 2004 (Week 6). The 28-year old recorded his first career multi-goal game as the visiting Galaxy defeated the Dallas Burn 3-1, ending a 17-game road winless streak. The California native has scored three goals and registered one assist in his first six games in MLS, tying him for second place on the League scoring charts. Kirovski, who returned stateside this year after 12 years in Europe, nearly scored early in the second half when his shot from the top of the box struck the crossbar with the Galaxy trailing 1-0. The U.S. international would connect on his next chance in the 57th minute, when he headed home a cross from Chris Albright at the penalty spot to even the score. The U.S. international (61 caps, nine goals) gave the Galaxy the lead only eight minutes later, this time hitting a quick shot on the turn from just outside the area that settled inside the left post. The 3-1 victory was the first win away from home for the Galaxy since a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on September 21, 2002. Kirovski, the second Galaxy player to win the honors this year (Ruiz - Week 4), was selected ahead of New England goalkeeper Adin Brown and MetroStars forward Cornell Glen. The Honda Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
KIROVSKI DOUBLE GIVES GALAXY ROAD VICTORY OVER BURN, 3-1:

Jovan Kirovski scored goals eight minutes apart in the second half as the Los Angeles Galaxy ended their 17-game road winless streak with a 3-1 victory against the Dallas Burn at the Cotton Bowl on May 8, handing the home side their first loss of the season. Toni Nhleko had given the Burn an early lead, but Kirovski struck twice shortly after the halftime break. Carlos Ruiz rounded out the scoring in stoppage time with his league-leading sixth goal of the year as the Galaxy took over sole possession of the Western Conference from the Burn.
RUIZ SCORES GOAL IN GUATEMALA'S 1-0 VICTORY OVER HAITI:
Los Angeles Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz, the leading scorer thus far in the 2004 MLS regular season with six goals and two assists for 14 total points, led the national team of his native Guatemala to a 1-0 victory over Haiti at Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City. After being fouled in the box, Ruiz scored the game-winner on the ensuing penalty kick in the 49th minute. The friendly comes as Guatemala continues preparations for the second round of CONCACAF qualifying to the FIFA World Cup Germany 2006, with the chapines slated to play a home-and-home series against Caribbean minnows Suriname on June 12 and 19.
