Match With The Burn A Family Pack Night
MID-WEEK MATCH-UP AGAINST D.C. UNITED AT RFK STADIUM LOOMS ON WEDNESDAY:
Coming off a 1-1 draw against the Colorado Rapids at The Home Depot Center last Saturday, the Los Angeles Galaxy (3-1-3, 12 pts -1st West) pack their bags and travel to Washington D.C. to square off with D.C. United (2-2-3, 9 pts - T-2nd East) on Wednesday at 4:30 pm (PT). The game, the first of two this week for the Galaxy, will be the re-match of a 1-1 draw between the sides in Carson on April 10. Galaxy fans hoping to get their second glimpse at young D.C. United superstar Freddy Adu playing against the Galaxy may so do on a tape-delayed basis, beginning at 8 pm on KWHY - Channel 22 (Spanish), with Elmer Polanco and Jaime Motta calling all the action. Die-hard Galaxy fans wanting to hear all the action as it unfolds can listen live to either KMPC 1540 AM (English) and 830 AM (Spanish).
GALAXY AND EARTHQUAKES RENEW RIVALRY SATURDAY:
The hottest and most intense rivalry in MLS is renewed for the first time in 2004 when the Galaxy travel up the California coast to meet the San Jose Earthquakes (2-2-3, 9 pts. - 2nd West) at Spartan Stadium next Saturday, May 22 at 7 p.m. The Western Conference foes have met a total of 30 times during the first the league's first eight seasons, with the Galaxy holding an 18-8-4 all-time advantage in the series. The match will be televised (tape-delayed) in Southern California on KCAL 9 beginning at 8 p.m. Live action can be heard over the radio airwaves on either KMPC 1540 AM (English) or 830 AM (Spanish).

GALAXY TIE RAPIDS 1-1, HANG ON TO FIRST PLACE IN THE WEST:
Alejandro Moreno and Jean-Philippe Peguero exchanged goals 10 minutes apart in the second half as the Colorado Rapids and Los Angeles Galaxy played to a 1-1 draw at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night. Moreno gave the Galaxy a 61st minute lead when he slid home a rebound of a Cobi Jones shot, but Peguero turned home a Chris Henderson pass 10 minutes later to give the Rapids the equalizer and their fourth draw in six matches this season. The Galaxy maintained their lead atop the Western Conference, and their 12 points from seven matches lead the league. Neither team succeeded in developing any rhythm in a relatively uneventful first half as hard fouls and uninspired play in the final third of the field contributed to stunted attacks on both ends. The Galaxy opened the scoring in the 61st minute on a fine movement, which saw the ball move from the left flank to the right through Herzog. He found Jones inside the box whose shot was blocked by Cannon, but Moreno beat Mastroeni to the ball and tapped it into an empty goal. It was the first tally of the season for the Venezuelan international. But Colorado drew level on 71 minutes as Matt Crawford sent a high cross through the penalty area from the right, where Henderson reached it at the byeline and cut it back toward the penalty spot to Peguero, who knocked a first-time shot into the net from the top of the six-yard box for his second goal of the season.
RUIZ SPRAINS RIGHT ANKLE, MRI SET FOR MONDAY:
Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz suffered a severely sprained right ankle early in Saturday's match against Colorado forcing him to leave the game. During the game, the Guatemalan international was taken to Centinela Hospital in Inglewood for precautionary X-rays, which came back negative. However, the third-year player will undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) on Monday to help further determine the extent of the injury.
NEXT GALAXY HOME GAME SET FOR MAY 29 AGAINST DALLAS BURN:
The Los Angeles Galaxy resume their 2004 home schedule on Saturday, May 29 at 7 pm against Jason Kreis and the Dallas Burn. The game will be a re-match of the May 8 meeting between the teams, won 3-1 by the Galaxy at the Cotton Bowl. After playing 70 minutes last Saturday, Jones has now amassed 17,768 in his eight-plus year career, surpassing Mauricio Cienfuegos' mark of 17,710 in eight seasons with the team.
