Galaxy reserves top Real reserves 4-2

The Los Angeles Galaxy reserves scored three goals in the second half and defeated the Real Salt Lake reserves, 4-2, at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.


Real had taken an early lead just ten minutes into the match when Jordan Cila collected a failed clearance by Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin about 30 yards from the goal and chipped the 'keeper. The home side responded to tie the score in the 22nd minute, a Guillermo Gonzalez free kick finding Troy Roberts in a crowd inside the six-yard box, with Roberts tapping the ball home. Neither team was able to score again before the half and they headed into the interval deadlocked at 1-1.


The Galaxy reserves got on the board first during the second period. In the 47th minute, Michael Enfield> '> s through ball hit Joseph Ngwenya in stride for a first-time shot that eluded Real 'keeper Jay Nolly. The visitors then equalized in the 73rd minute when Jaime Watson collected a pass in the penalty area and rounded Cronin before slotting his shot home.


The last 15 minutes of the match belonged to the Galaxy reserves. After an extended possession in the 79th minute, Herculez Gomez fired a low shot that Jolly did well to stop, only to see Ngwenya out-jump a defender and head the loose ball into the back of the net. Gomez would add a goal of his own before the final whistle, settling a pass from Ryan Shaw in the box, eluding a defender and hitting home for the final margin.
