Galaxy 2, Crew 0 -- Quote sheet

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 2004 - LOS ANGELES GALAXY 2, COLUMBUS CREW 0

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID

On the 2-0 victory:
"I thought tonight was our most complete performance both offensively and defensively. We have been working a lot on knowing exactly how to play with each other ... I think we created a number of chances and were rewarded with two goals. Overall, we were just a lot more aggressive defensively. We have a lot of depth and that showed today when we brought in (Ryan) Suarez for (Danny) Califf. I also thought that (Chris) Albright played a great game at right back."

On introducing three new midfielders around Andreas Herzog:
"They played really well. We have increased Joe's (Ngwenya's) minutes each week and he's been coming along. Marcelo (Saragosa) we wanted to settle in. We knew he could play, that's why we brought him up here, and he did a great job defensively on (Kyle) Martino, and really shut him down. With Ned (Grabavoy), we went into the game just seeing how he would do and he is the kind of kid that battles and is good on the ball."

On play of Paul Broome:
"He played really well. In the game against Tecos (Tuesday) we told him that was how we needed him to play and that's what he did today. He had a big-time assist on (Carlos) Ruiz's goal and he played an overall good game."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY MIDFIELDER MARCELO SARAGOSA

On first start as a Galaxy player:
"For being my first game (as a starter), I enjoyed playing with this team a lot."

On the fan support:
"The fan support, for a player is very important. I am happy with the Galaxy fans and their support for me and the team tonight."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD CARLOS RUIZ

On scoring two goals:
"The first goal was due to the tremendous effort of Joseph Ngwenya and a good penalty call by the referee. The second goal was made because of good team effort and the timing of the pass."

On winning at home:
"It was very important to get the win tonight at home and get the maximum points. We should go to New England, next week and play well there also."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY MIDFIELDER NED GRABAVOY

On his first career start:
"It felt good and it's definitely a different feeling. You play a lot of big games and you're finally 20 years old and you think you've played a lot of soccer and you experience something totally different."

On the fans and playing at The Home Depot Center:
"It's great. This is a great city for soccer. Our fans come out here every game and support us, and I think we have the best home field advantage in the whole league. It is definitely great to be out here in Los Angeles at this great facility."

On almost scoring in his first appearance at the close of the game:
"I didn't even see (the defender) coming. I thought I was in alone and he came in and got all of the ball and it's too bad."

COLUMBUS CREW HEAD COACH GREG ANDRULIS

On his team's performance:
"We regrouped well and had some chances. I thought Jeff's (Cunningham) was going in. When things don't go your way, they really don't go your way. The effort is there."

On Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz scoring two goals:
"You have to give (Carlos) Ruiz credit. He's a great player. We got caught a little bit in transition, but Ruiz had a great finish. Robin (Fraser) was there, (Jon) Busch was there."

COLUMBUS CREW MIDFIELDER BRIAN MAISONNEUVE

On the 2-0 loss:
"It's frustrating. We had our chances. It could have been our game. We have a great group of guys, the attitude is good, we just have to stay together and the wins will come. At the same time, we have to watch the tape and fix some things and get back at it."

COLUMBUS CREW FORWARD JEFF CUNNINGHAM

On his shot which was cleared off the line:
"I thought it was going in ... It is a little frustrating. Last year we started 2-0-1 and didn't make the playoffs. We need to stay positive."

COLUMBUS CREW DEFENDER CHAD MARSHALL

On the result:
"I am disappointed we didn't get any points. There are still some positives to take from the game. We have to get back to Columbus and be ready for Saturday."

On his near misses on goals in last two games: "I'm hoping. That's the plan. Simon (Elliott) has served some great balls in I just need to better on my part."
