Galaxy 0, Quakes 0 -- quote sheet

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2004 - LOS ANGELES GALAXY 0, SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 0

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:
"I guess 0-0 was a pretty fair result. There wasn't a lot of beautiful soccer tonight, it was a fight like it always is with these teams. Both teams gave a spirited effort and I think 0-0 was a fair result.

"Unfortunately tonight for our fans we couldn't get that goal. I think you have to give credit to L.A. and give credit to our guys for giving a hard fought and tough performance."

On the L.A.-San Jose rivalry:
"Over nine years this has proven to be a big rivalry, even when one team isn't doing very well, the games are tough. I don't know if there is hatred there, but there isn't a lot of like. Both teams have a lot of pride and take a lot of pride in playing well against each other."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER LANDON DONOVAN

On the game:
"It was one of those games where there wasn't a lot of room out to move out there. They came here pretty much to spoil, and they did their job tonight."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER TROY DAYAK

On the crowd:
"It was a fantastic crowd tonight. When it is like that it spurs you on and makes you feel emotional. It feels like you are almost an extension of the crowd, and tonight I wish we could have got them a victory."

On the game:
"It was a physical game. It came down to battling and I am just glad that we didn't give up any goals out there."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER EDDIE ROBINSON

On his first start since April:
"Overall, I was pretty pleased. It took me some time to get my second wind, but for my first game, to go against Kirvoski and Ruiz, that was a test. It is always physical with them. That is part of our rivalry. It was a fairly entertaining game, and I think that is to be expected."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON

On the game:

"A tie is a good result here, but it was more the way we played the game. I thought that we played well enough to win the game and should have. We should have stolen three points from them (San Jose) because Cobi (Jones) had two clear opportunities and Carlos (Ruiz) had one clear opportunity. I was very proud of the way we keep our tactical discipline. A point now puts us tied for second place with Colorado with Colorado having played one more game than us."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY GOALKEEPER KEVIN HARTMAN

On the game:

I think that (we) feel like this was a really successful evening for us. At this point in the season, we need to make sure that we are getting points and playing really smart soccer. Over the last four or five games, we have really been playing a style of soccer that is suited to us and we are tactically disciplined."

On the defensive performance:

"We made a conscientious decision that we were not going to play out of the back some much tonight because the dimensions of the field make it so that if you make a mistake in the back it is going to come back to haunt you. We were knocking the ball long and we had guys that were willing to battle for it. I thought that we had the lion's share of the opportunities, but the guys really battled hard for me. We were winning headers and I have a ton of faith in not only Tyrone, Ryan and Paulie, but now I have a lot of faith in Sasha as my right back. They really did the work tonight, were disciplined and were able to move as a group. Pete and Marcelo always to a good job of stepping up and pressuring in the midfield."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD ALAN GORDON

On making his MLS debut:

"It felt great, I was just happy to get the opportunity. The game was winding down and we just need somebody to bring some energy so I was happy to do that for the guys."

On what his instructions were going into the match:

"It is tough to play here and we were trying to get the tie. So, he just wanted me to battle for everything in the air and that's what I did."
