First Annual San Jose Earthquakes Charity Golf Classic To Raise Money For Sierramont Middle School After-School Sports Program

The San Jose Earthquakes will host their First Annual Charity Golf Classic on Monday, Sept. 27 at The Villages Golf & Country Club in San Jose. All proceeds from the event featuring Earthquakes players, coaches and President & General Manager Alexi Lalas will benefit the Sierramont Middle School After-School Sports Program.

The tournament will start with registration and lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The four-person-scramble-format will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.

"The Sierramont Middle School's After-School Sports Program is a part of the San Jose community that is in need of help," Lalas said. "This is a great way for our organization to have some fun and make a difference at the same time."

Over 300 Sierramont students are involved in the after-school sports program that offers a total of nine sports throughout the school year and will be able to continue for another year partly through the efforts of the Earthquakes Charity Golf Classic.

"Sierramont is honored to be selected as the first beneficiary of the San Jose Earthquakes Charity Golf Classic," Sierramont Middle School Principal Joe Amelio said. "Without this massive effort from the club, we would not be able to provide our students with an after-school sports program. I would like to thank the Earthquakes for providing our school with the means to continue the very popular after-school sports program."

With the help of contributing sponsors Allstate, Fremont Bank and Comerica Bank, the Earthquakes intend to make the Charity Golf Classic an annual event that will support a variety of Bay Area causes. This year, the After-School Sports Program at Sierramont Middle School will receive a huge boost from the tournament.

The $175 entry fee includes the pre-golf luncheon greens fees and cart rental, course beverages, tee prizes, photos and a no-host cocktail dinner following the tournament.
