Fire GM Peter Wilt inducted into two Halls of Fame

Peter Wilt

CHICAGO - Chicago Fire general manager Peter Wilt has been honored twice recently after being named to the "Class of 2004" in a pair of Halls of Fame. The Illinois State Soccer Association has named the 44-year-old Wilt as one of eleven inductees into the 2004 Illinois Soccer Hall of Fame. Wilt and fellow 2004 inductees Flo Dyson, Nedeljko Kralj, Federico Lopez, Peter Ioakimidis, Julio Parrales, Frank Tomek, Phil Riess, Joseph Soehn, Bruno Trapikas and Len Ziehm will be honored at the ISSA's 2004 Soccer Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony and Banquet at Bob Chinn's Restaurant in Chicago on Saturday, Sep. 18.

"I am humbled by this honor," said Wilt. "To join the company of the dedicated men and women who are in the Illinois Soccer Hall of Fame is gratifying. I am appreciative for the selection and look forward to the induction ceremony in September."

In addition, Wilt has also been honored by Marian Central High School of Woodstock, Ill. as a member of its 2004 Sports Hall of Fame class. Wilt was MVP of Marian's cross country team in 1974 and earned letters in cross country and tennis, but it is his professional accomplishments that earned the 1978 Marian graduate the Sports Hall of Fame selection.

"I am honored to join Marian Central's Sports Hall of Fame and anticipate having wonderful memories when I return for the induction in October," Wilt said. "I am indebted to Marian, and, in particular, my cross country and tennis coach Hans Rokus, for providing me with the life skills and values that have benefited me throughout my career in professional sports administration."

Wilt is the only member of this year's class to earn accolades for his work in professional sports. Wilt joins Andy Hartlieb, John Hartlieb and Sue Syljebeck, who enter the Hall of Fame based on their merits as athletes at Marian Central, coach Tom Van Daele and "Friend of Marian" Chris Nobilio in the "Class of 2004." Also being honored is the 1987 Class 2A Illinois State Football Championship squad. This year's Marian Central Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place later this fall on Oct. 9.
