During the first half of play the two teams seemed to be feeling each other out as scoring chances were few. The one noteworthy moment from the first half came in the 25th minute when FC Dallas head coach Colin Clarke was ejected from the bench area for arguing two straight fouls on Oscar Pareja. Clarke watched the remainder of the match from behind the goal next to the Columbus Crew coaching staff.
Just before halftime, Mario Torres gathered a rebound off his own corner kick and centered the ball seven yards out. Aaron Pitchkolan then headed the ball to Cory Woolfolk who headed a stinger that the 'keeper was just able to knock over the goal in the 44th minute.
The first two goals by Bodo Glimt came from Ludvigsen in the 57th and 69th minutes. His first goal broke a scoreless tie after Olsen made a nice centering pass that Ludvigsen one-timed past Scott Garlick. His second goal came off a long pass over the defense that he redirected to the back of the net, giving Bodo Glimt a 2-0 lead.
After Chris Gbandi was given a red card in the 74th minute for an attempt to head butt, FC Dallas was down a man and Saharrassen made them pay with a goal from a nice feed from Ludvigsen.
One of FC Dallas' best chances came when Arturo Alvarez took a free kick just outside the box in the 79th minute. Alvarez drilled a shot from left to right that just sailed outside of the right post.
Head coach Colin Clarke on the scrimmage:
"We started a group that was mostly young kids and a few trialists. I thought for the first 45 minutes they had done very well. They applied themselves very well, and it could have gone anyway at that stage. In the second half, we made one change (Pareja went out) and that one change was a big influence for us in the first half. He did a great job of keeping possession of the ball and making us play and then we replaced him and it hurt. The other thing is that this is the first time anybody on the team has gone 90 minutes and that took a toll on us as well. Late in the second half you could see we were getting tired, but I don't want to overlook how great we played in the first half. I thought Aaron Pitchkolan, Drew Moor and Ty Maurin did a great job for us. We had some positives in the match and we also learned a few valuable lessons about some players tonight."
Clarke on being ejected from the bench area:
"I try to protect my players and look after them. I told the referee what I thought and he decided to eject me. That's his prerogative, and being ejected is not something I'm proud of. I'll be punished for the ejection by myself, but we'll move forward and try not to have that overshadow the first half we played."
Clarke on injured forward Cornell Glen:
"Cornell had an ankle sprain yesterday in the afternoon training session. He will be re-evaluated next week."
The team's next scrimmage will be on Friday versus Fredrikstad FK of Norway.
