Ecuastars win Copa Budweiser Metro championship

The Ecuastars claimed the 2004 Copa Budweiser Championship last Saturday.

SECAUCUS, N.J. - Harrison, N.J., based Ecuastars Soccer Club were crowned the Copa Budweiser Metro Champion at Giants Stadium last Saturday. The Ecuastars battled through overtime with New York's champion Orion Costa Rica in a spirited final that was decided 2-1 in penalty kicks. The winning penalty kick was sent home by former MetroStar Petter Villegas.


In the semifinals, the New Jersey champion Ecuastars defeated New York's Ecuador Condors and Orion Costa Rica defeated New Rochelle United in penalty kicks. Others who qualified to play at Giants Stadium were Champions League clubs Sport Club Portuguese, Kappa Real, New Jersey's Quick Goal and New York's Dragons
