SAN JOSE - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has signed former Stanford University standout James Twellman to a developmental contract for the 2005 season. Twellman was selected by the Earthquakes in the fourth round (42nd overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not announced.


Despite missing much of the 2004 season with a knee injury, Twellman, 22, played in 68 games at Stanford in his career. The Chesterfield, MO native was an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and was a First Team All-Pac 10 Academic selection in 2002 and 2003.


Twellman's brother Taylor is one of the top strikers in MLS with the New England Revolution, who come to town on Saturday, April 2 to play the Earthquakes in the MLS season opener for both teams.
