SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes lost forwards Chris Brown and Jamil Walker in the Major League Soccer Expansion Draft, which took place live on ESPNEWS Friday afternoon. Brown was selected in the sixth round by Real Salt Lake, while Walker went in the eighth round to CD Chivas USA.
Brown, 27, who came to the Earthquakes in a trade from the New England Revolution on April 8, 2004, appeared in 11 games with the Quakes in 2004. The native of Portland, Ore. netted two goals and notched one assist on the season, bringing his career totals to 20 goals and 12 assists in six seasons. Brown started his career with the Kansas City Wizards before being traded to the Revolution in 2003.
Walker, 23, played in 29 games over two seasons for San Jose after being drafted by the Quakes in the fourth round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft out of Santa Clara University. In 2003, Walker netted four goals in the regular season and recorded one goal and two assists in the playoffs. This past season, the Rochester, NY native appeared in 10 games with two starts and did not record a point.
The Earthquakes retain the rights to the other five players that had been left unprotected prior to the MLS Expansion Draft - Jeff Agoos, Jon Conway, Ronnie Ekelund, Wes Hart and Chris Ronér.
