CHIVAS USA 1, SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1
CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH HANS WESTERHOF
On the game:
"I believe we played very well on the first 45 minutes, then we made some mistakes, but at
the end we showed we had a good mentality, because we turn the game in our favor in the
second half and just failed to score the second goal."
About Brad Guzan starting as goalkeeper:
"I told them that I needed to see more of all the players. I saw Martín Zúñiga in three or
four games then I wanted to see Brad. I also sat Héctor Cuadros and [Francisco] Gómez, not because
they played bad, but to use all my options and that's why I tried some changes in the
starting lineup today."
CHIVAS USA DEFENDER EZRA HENDRICKSON
On the game:
"I'm happy because I scored, but not satisfied of the result. Playing at home, against a
conference opponent, a team that we have in front of us in the standings, we need to get
three points, one is not enough "
About the impact on the team by the new coach:
"I think we gained some intensity. We have been training hard all week long and I believed
it's paying off, because we where ready to win today, but we where a little unlucky, giving
a soft goal and not been able to score the winner."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR
On whether he's disappointed to earn his second draw against Chivas
USA:
"Yeah. Especially with the way the games have gone, in San Jose we took
the
lead a couple times and for us to give up that goal late was, I felt we
were
on top of them. And today, with the chances we had, another day we could have had three [points] in the bank. So we're disappointed, because it
was a
good chance for us to open up some space [in the table]. But I can't
fault
the guys for their effort and creating chances."
On his team's goalscoring chances:
"We created a bunch of chances today, and on a different day, we score
more
goals, but some good goalkeeping and crossbars keep us out."
On whether the absence of Brian Ching affects the role of Dwayne De
Rosario:
"It doesn't, because when Brian was healthy, Dwayne was playing attacking midfielder as well. So his role is always the same, wanting to join the
attack late, since he's a very talented, very explosive player, so
whether
it's Brian Ching or Alejandro or Ronald his role doesn't change."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD ALEJANDRO MORENO
On his goal:
"We wanted to put pressure on their defense and try to create turnovers. We
did that, and as Dwayne got the ball I just made a run in between their
defenders, and I was hoping Dwayne would see that space, and he did. And he
played me a great ball and I just took my time, really picked a spot,
and
put it away."
On the team's goalscoring chances:
"Well we created a lot of chances. We really created a lot of chances,
and
that's an important thing, but obviously we want to finish those
chances, I
felt at times we put ourselves in great positions, and then all of a
sudden
we couldn't put them away. In the end, it's difficult to just take a
point
from here, because we thought we had done enough to win this game."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD DWAYNE DE ROSARIO
On his assist to Alejandro Moreno:
"It started from Ronald putting pressure on the [Chivas USA] right back,
and
Wade again putting pressure on their forward. Wade won the ball, and the ball came to me, and I saw Alejandro running across from the backs of
the
defense and I saw them making enough space so I chipped it over, and
luckly
it went on his foot, and it was a great finish."
On his team's attacking play:
"Definitely pleased about the way we attacked, we created a lot of good
chances. Unfortunately we didn't' finish those, and the one we did
finish
was a great finish, and the other one, he played a great ball to me, and they called it offside. That's the breaks."
