Dominic Kinnear's weekly conversation

Alex, from Centerville, WA asks: Can you comment on the play of Ronald Cerritos this season and how the team has responded with players missing while at the Gold Cup?

Dominic Kinnear: "Ronald Cerritos has had an excellent season so far for us. Not only is he scoring goals and getting assists, his overall play has just been a joy to watch. I think he is really enjoying his football right now and he is enjoying making his teammates better. As far as the way the team has responded, they have responded by carrying on and playing hard and well. We can't think about the people that aren't here, we wish those guys the best of luck and hope they do well, but we have to concentrate on the guys that are here and worry about playing the best that we can. We have done that and I am pleased about that."

Jonathan, from San Jose, CA asks: To what do you attribute the Earthquakes seven-game unbeaten streak?

DK: "I think overall, our team defense has been excellent. We've been playing well, back to front to the midfield. Right now we just have a great attitude as far as working hard for each other and wanting to win. We don't want to lose at all, and everyone is playing well and playing with confidence. Of course, when you win and get good results, the confidence just grows and then you continue to play better. I think we are seeing that right now."

Rachel, from Dublin, CA asks: With the team playing so well right now despite missing several key players from injury and national team commitments, how do you plan on fitting everyone back into the team when players return?

DK: "To be honest, I don't look that far ahead. I can't do that. I just have to look at the next game and concern myself with putting the best lineup on the field for that particular game."

D.C. United played the Earthquakes tough at Spartan Stadium in the team's first meeting of the season. What do you expect from D.C. United on Friday night?

DK: "I know that they have had some injuries and absences lately with some of their key guys, like [Jaime] Moreno and Alecko [Eskandarian], so we will have to see about that. Overall, they are a good team and I think they have been a bit unlucky so far with some of their results. I think they are a better team than their record indicates. They play a 3-5-2, so they like to clog the midfield. We will need our outside backs to have a good game and to be good on the ball. Possession is going to be a big key for us, and of course we need to capitalize on our set pieces."
