WASHINGTON, D.C. - Bobby Boswell, D.C. United's starting central defender in the team's first three regular season games, had his contract upgraded from developmental to the full 18-man roster today. The Black-and-Red defense allowed only two goals in the three games Boswell started. The 22-year-old forward was acquired via a discovery pick on March 9, 2005. Per League and team policy, the terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"We are pleased with the progress that Bobby has made during his first few months with our team." said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "He is deserving of a spot on our senior roster and we look forward to his future at D.C. United."
Boswell helped United earn a clean sheet in the 2-0 MLS season-opening victory against expansion club CD Chivas USA. Last year, as the team's co-captain, Boswell led the Florida International University Golden Panthers to a successful season as the team lifted the Atlantic Soccer Conference crown for a third straight year. A Golden Panther defense mainstay, he tallied three goals, including two game-winners, and two assists. A Tampa native, Boswell was selected to the NSCAA/adidas All-South First Team. He was also named to both Soccer America and College Soccer News National Teams of the Week and was selected to his second straight All-Atlantic Soccer Conference First Team. Boswell ended his career at FIU with 12 goals and seven assists in 72 appearances.
