WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Soccer announced today that D.C. United midfielder Clyde Simms has been named to the U.S. National Team's roster for the team's May 28 friendly versus England in Chicago. Simms was one of 19 players named to the roster by head coach Bruce Arena, which includes eight total players from Major League Soccer. The May 28 game versus England will take place at Soldier Field and is set for 3 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on both ESPN and Telemundo.
"Clyde is playing very well and has been a great signing for D.C. United," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper, "This call-up is well-deserved and we wish him the best of luck with the match."
The call-up is not Simms first involvement with the team, as the North Carolina native was called into U.S. training camp, along with various United Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League players, in January during the labor dispute between the U.S. Soccer Players Association and U.S. Soccer. After an agreement was reached between the two parties, Simms was the only player invited to continue training with the full team, in preparation for World Cup qualifiers.
For United this year, Simms has seen time in six of seven regular season games, including four starts. He's logged a total of 393 minutes in the defensive midfield for the Black-and-Red.
