D.C. United to host Armed Forces Appreciation Day

WASHINGTON, DC - D.C. United announced plans Thursday for the team's Fifth Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Day. The event, scheduled in conjunction with United's Saturday, June 19 match against the Columbus Crew, will showcase aspects of the armed forces community as a part of Soccer Celebration, held in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium prior to the match. Additional activities saluting our armed forces are scheduled for before kick-off and at halftime. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.

"D.C. United is pleased to, once again, have the privilege to host our armed forces," said Stephen Zack, senior vice president of D.C. United. "There are numerous activities planned throughout the evening and we hope to honor service members while raising funds for local USO efforts."

Members of the armed forces who purchase tickets to this match will receive premium-level tickets at a discounted price of $10, a savings of $12 off the normal price of $22. To receive this price, tickets must be purchased from base MWR/ITT offices in advance. In addition, D.C. United will donate $1 from every ticket sold to the USO of Metropolitan Washington to benefit the troops.

D.C. United has worked closely with the area USO and MWR to create this event, recognizing local members of the armed forces. In addition to offering discounted tickets for the June 19 match, United is including static displays highlighting the contributions of the armed forces in the "Soccer Celebration" pre-game event, open to the public.
