D.C. United to face Getafe CF during preseason tour of Spain

Washington, D.C. - D.C. United today announced it will play Getafe Club de Futbol of the prestigious Spanish Primera on March 2, in an international friendly as part of a two-week preseason tour of Spain. The match with Getafe is set for 7:30 p.m. local time and is part of a week of activities and programs, held by the City of Getafe, promoting intercultural relations. Proceeds from the match will be directed to projects of social integration, tolerance and other sports initiatives. The Black-and-Red will play two additional closed-door exhibitions during its tour. The team will depart for Spain on Feb. 26 and return to D.C. on March 10.


    "We appreciate the opportunity to play this friendly with Getafe," said United's President and CEO, Kevin Payne.  "D.C. United is always interested in playing established clubs from around the world and to take on top level international competition. We are especially pleased to have scheduled this game in order that our young players may gain some valuable experience by playing a quality Getafe side on the road."</p>


    Currently, Getafe is in 11th place in the 20-team Spanish Primera Division. The club's season was highlighted by a 2-1 win over Valencia - one of only three losses the second-place Valencia has suffered this season.  Getafe has scored 32 goals and allowed 32, while putting together a record of 8-10-6.  Getafe is coached by ex-German international Bernd Schuster. </p>
