D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK:

On the game:
"I liked the atmosphere in the stadium. The crowd was very colorful and into the game. We did not play our best today, but I'm happy because we were able to come out with the victory, thanks to two very good definitions on goal on our part."

On the Pope's death:
"I feel very sorry for him, because he was a great man. I remember him as an inspirational person in my younger days, as well as for a very critical time in our country's [Poland's] history. I believe that the whole world is mourning his passing, beyond any religious denomination."

D.C. UNITED FORWARD JAIME MORENO

On the game:
"The important thing is that we came to win. We weren't familiar with Chivas' style of play but we were mainly concentrated on our team, which is why we won the game. I think Chivas has a lot of potential, they have very interesting players but they need to work more as a team because is not going to be easy for them in a league like MLS."

On the Pope's death:
"We heard the bad news on our way to the field. We are all mourning his death, there is a lot of sadness in the world because of this news, but we know that he is resting in peace in heaven."

D.C. UNITED FORWARD FREDDY ADU:

On Chivas USA being the center of attention (instead of him):
"It was pretty nice, But, I was not thinking about that, anyways. All I wanted to do is get out there and play. I've been working hard, but (head coach) Peter (Nowak) has to go with the eleven on the field that he feels work best together, so I just got to keep working harder and hopefully I will get on the field."

On Chivas USA:
"They weren't a bad team. They just need time to compete in this league."

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH THOMAS RONGEN:

On the result of the game:
"Obviously we are clearly disappointed on the result, because we worked very hard towards this historic day. We are extremely disappointed because we couldn't show to our fans and our organization more than zero points today. On the other hand, we displayed some good things that eventually will make us a good team."

"The difference on the game, at the end, it's us not converting opportunities, and D.C. United been able to do that. We had a good start at the game and good start at the second half, creating some good chances missed by Matt Taylor in a few occasions. We weren't able to pull the trigger, while D.C. did it in two occasions, on counters. They are a very good, experienced team."

"We had a lot of positives today, but unfortunately the big one negative, not winning the game and that's disappointing for players and staff."

On the league's level of competition:
"MLS is a tough league. Some underestimate it, especially in other countries, but we have a very strong competition and every team can win games in every given day. D.C. is the champion, but the league, in its 10th season, it's getting better and better."

CHIVAS USA MIDFIELDER AND CAPITAN RAMÓN RAMÍREZ

On the game:

"I'm happy because the team is finally on its way. In general, I feel that we played a good game. We had a lot of opportunities to score, especially, in the second half, but in this game of soccer no matter how good you play the team that scores is the one that wins."

"I'm happy with the way we played because we came out to the field with a positive attitude and in certain moments, we played very good, but at the end we couldn't put it in the net. D.C. United had some good counterattacks and took advantage of their experience."
