D.C. Reserves 2, Revs Reserves 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Nana Kuffour and Santino Quaranta notched second-half goals for the D.C. United Reserves (2-0-0) in a 2-1 defeat of the New England Revolution Reserves (0-1-0) on a cold and rainy Sunday morning in D.C. Connally Edozien scored the lone goal for the visitors in the 83rd minute of play.

United controlled possession early in the match, but did not create any dangerous attempts on goal. In a half that saw United outshoot the Revolution 7-0, United's best chance to score came just before halftime when forward Nana Kuffour sent a cross onto the head of midfielder Jason Thompson, who rose above the defense and smashed a header towards goal, only to have it saved by goalkeeper Doug Warren.

The second half saw a slightly more even match. It was United who would strike first, however, when Kuffour fed a ball to forward Jamil Walker deep in the box. Walker collected the pass, turned his defender and fed the ball back to Kuffour, just outside the six-yard box, who easily slotted the ball past a diving Warren to put United up 1-0 in the 60th minute.

The Revolution evened the score in the 83rd minute when Easton Wilson fed a pass to Connally Edozien on the left side of the goal, who was able to slide the ball past United's Troy Perkins.

As time wore down, it looked as though the game may end in a 1-1 draw. However, with five minutes to go in the game, Eliseo Quintanilla carried the ball up the left side of the field and slid a beautifully weighted pass through the New England defense to a streaking Santino Quarantana who moved across the top of the goal box and struck a shot past an off-balance Warren and into the lower left corner of the goal.

The goal would be the final of the match, sending the United Reserves to a 2-1 victory. United out-shout the Revolution 14-5 in the match.
