Dan Checketts

Dan is the chief executive of SportsWest, the largest unwired sports network or syndication distributor of live event college sports programming in the West. He became president when his brother Dave Checketts, a sports entrepreneur, purchased the company from Bonneville International in 2002.


Dan oversees all SportsWest operations from sales and production to contractual relationships with universities and television affiliates. He is the principal executive responsible for new programming and the addition of new colleges and universities to SportsWest program offerings.


He was named Vice President of Sales at KSL TV in 1994 over Brigham Young University sports and during that time brought in revenues of four million at both KSL TV and radio. He also directed the sales of merchandising which included signage, promotions and tailgate parties at BYU. In 1997, he was promoted to Vice President and Executive Producer of the Blue & White Network, a national television production arm of BYU football while KSL TV was BYU's flagship station. Two years later, Dan became Vice President and General Manager of SportsWest when Bonneville International acquired the Blue & White Network.


Dan's principal careers have been in marketing and sales, where he was named marketing specialist of the year in 1992 and television sales person of the year in 1993 for KSL TV. He attended the University of Utah and BYU and was president of the Utah Advertising Federation. He has served on the University of Utah Hospital Foundation and enjoys coaching youth basketball and baseball teams.
