Crew host Wizards, United this week

The second place teams in the East and West meet in Columbus on Wednesday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Crew will look to run its unbeaten streak to nine games when the Black & Gold play a pair of home games this week at Crew Stadium.


  The Crew faces the Kansas City Wizards on Wednesday, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the final Johnsonville Buck-A-Brat Night of they year.  The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill will be on hand.  On Saturday, August 21, teen-phenom Freddy Adu makes his first appearance of the year in Columbus when The Crew takes on D.C. United at 7:30 p.m.</p>


  The Crew is unbeaten in its last seven games (2-0-5) after a 0-0 tie at Los Angeles last Saturday, August 14. The Crew is 6-5-8 (26 pts.) on the year and in second-place in the Eastern Conference, trailing the MetroStars by six points (32).  Kansas City is in second-place in the West with a 9-6-5 record and 32 points. </p>


  Columbus is one point ahead of third-place D.C. United, three ahead of New England and four ahead of Chicago.  The Crew has played two fewer games than the entire Eastern Conference. </p>


  Wednesday and Saturday's games can be heard in English on The New Eagle, 103.9, or online through TheCrew.com and MLSNet.com.  They both can also be heard in Spanish on AM-1550.  Wednesday's game can be seen in high definition on HDNet, while Saturday's game will be televised locally on Fox Sports Net (FSN Ohio). </p>

STANDING ROOM ONLY TICKETS TO GO ON SALE TODAY AT 10 A.M.

The Crew announced on Saturday, August 14, that reserved seating is almost sold out and that standing-room-only seating would go on sale Monday morning at 10 a.m. for The Crew's August 21 game vs. Freddy Adu and Eastern Conference rival D.C. United at 7:30 p.m. The Crew has also been selling 10 person tables in the stadium's Huntington Club for a special post-game "Q&A" session with Freddy Adu. A limited number of tables remain available at $1,000 per table, including food, and may be reserved by contacting the Crew front office at 447-CREW. Widely recognized as the most talented young soccer player in the world today, the 15-year-old Adu became the youngest professional athlete in the history of modern American team sports when he took the field for his MLS debut on April 3, 2004, in front of a national television audience on ABC Sports. He was the first overall selection in the 2004 SuperDraft by D.C.


ERICK SCOTT AND COSTA RICA FALL 2-0 TO IRAQ IN THE OLYMPICS

  Crew forward Erick Scott played the full 90 minutes in Costa Rica's 2-0 loss to Iraq on Sunday, August 15, in their second game of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece.  Costa Rica is in Group D in the Olympics with Morocco, Iraq and Portugal.  Scott also played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 tie with Morocco on Aug. 12.  Costa Rica must beat Portugal on Aug. 18 to have a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.</p>


SEVEN-GAME UNBEATEN STREAK TIES LONGEST OF YEAR AND IS THIRD LONGEST IN CREW HISTORY

  After a 0-0 tie at Los Angeles on Saturday (August 14), The Crew upped its unbeaten streak to seven games (2-0-5).  The Crew also had a seven-game (4-0-3) unbeaten streak earlier in the year from 5/1 to 6/12 and they rank as the third longest unbeaten streaks in team history.  Only a team-record nine game run (7-0-2) from 7/4 to 8/19, 2001, and an eight-game streak (8-0-0) from 8/4 to 9/15, 1996, have been longer.  Four of the games in the unbeaten streak have been played on the road, all ties, including three shutouts (all 0-0 results).</p>


CREW STADIUM TO HOST VIEWING PARTIES FOR FIRST THREE WORLD CUP QUALIFYING MATCHES, INCLUDING THIS WEDNESDAY

 The U.S. Men's National Team's road to the 2006 FIFA World Cup continues on August 18 when it opens the semifinal round of FIFA World Cup qualifying in Jamaica.  The U.S. game in Jamaica will be shown live on ESPN2 at 7 p.m., but Crew Stadium will show the game in its entirety in the Stadium Club starting at 9:30 p.m. at the conclusion of The Crew's home game vs. Kansas City. The tape delayed start of the U.S. game allows fans the opportunity to see both games without having to choose between the two.  After Jamaica, the U.S. will play its first semifinal home match against El Salvador on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. in Foxboro, Mass. Road games on Sept. 8 in Panama at 9 p.m. and Oct. 10 in El Salvador will follow, before the U.S. closes with consecutive home games: Oct. 13 in D.C. against Panama and Nov. 17 against Jamaica at Crew Stadium.  The Sept. 4 game vs. El Salvador will be shown live on Fox Sports World at 4 p.m. and can be viewed in the Stadium Club at Crew Stadium. The Sept. 8 game in Panama will also be shown live on Fox Sports World at 9 p.m. and can be viewed in Crew Stadium's Huntington Club. Admission is free for both viewing parties.  The Crew has a home game on Sept. 4 vs. L.A. which starts at 7:30 p.m.  Crew Stadium will also host viewing parties for the Oct. 9 and Oct. 13 qualifying games.</p>


FIRST COLUMBUS CREW FOUNDATION AUCTION IS SET FOR THIS SATURDAY

  The Crew will hold its First Annual Columbus Crew Foundation auction on Saturday, August 21.  The auction will take place before and after The Crew's home game vs. D.C. United and teenage phenom Freddy Adu on Saturday, August 21 at 7:30 p.m.  The auction will take place in the Stadium Club tent located on the west side of Crew Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. when gates open for the game. The auction will run for an hour and a half until the game starts at 7:30 p.m. It will close at 7:30 p.m. for the duration of the game before resuming for a final 45 minutes after the game is over.  All proceeds will go to the Columbus Crew Foundation (501(c) 3), benefiting The Crew's Kicks for Kids program. Kicks for Kids is a partnership program providing Crew game tickets for local children's organizations. It's an opportunity to give disadvantaged children, honor students, and other great kids the experience of a lifetime.  The auction is the first of its kind at Crew Stadium and should be an exciting opportunity for fans to bid on some fabulous items and packages. Not only will there be soccer memorabilia, there will also be a wide variety of auction items from various supporting organizations and companies.  Among the items that have been donated to the auction so far are framed jerseys from soccer stars Brad Friedel, Freddy Adu, Tim Howard, and the U.S. Men's National Team; a Columbus Blue Jackets fantasy package consisting of a team autographed jersey, four glass seats and four VIP lounge passes; Golf foursomes to some of the best private golf courses in central Ohio; Shadowbox Cabaret party package for 50; Funny Bone tickets; Hot Air Balloon ride; Several romantic packages, including hotel stays and fine dining gift certificates; Concert tickets to Germain Amphitheater; Autographed OSU memorabilia; Get-away packages; gift baskets and many more great packages and items.
