Club Deportivo Chivas USA, Major League Soccer's new Mexican-owned expansion franchise, is set to play its first-ever exhibition match in the United States on March 8 against Mexican First Division side Atlante. The showdown between California-based Chivas USA and the "Iron Colts" will take place in San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.

"We are pleased to begin our preseason exhibition schedule in San Diego, which together with the neighboring city of Tijuana is a hotbed of support for Chivas," said Antonio Cué, President and Co-Owner of Club Deportivo Chivas USA. "There, our public will get a chance to see their team in its first-ever exhibition match in the United States."

"We are thrilled to be able to present quality soccer to the fans of San Diego and Southern California," said Juan Tamayo Sr., President and Founder of Tamayo Entertainment, the company that will be producing the match. "Chivas USA's first exhibition in the United States is news unto itself, and given that they will be facing off against the ever-tough Atlante, it makes for an even bigger event."

One of two MLS expansion teams for the 2005 season, Club Deportivo Chivas USA is preparing a top-class team to represent Mexico's most popular soccer club, Chivas, to its millions of fans in the United States. Two weeks ago, Chivas USA began its 2005 preseason camp in Mexico, at "La Primavera" training center on the outskirts of Guadalajara.

With an impressive list of honors in Mexican and international soccer, the "Iron Colts" of Atlante are among top class of Mexican soccer. The Mexico City-based club's current roster includes important Mexican and foreign stars.

The match is set to kick off on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. PT. Tickets, priced $25-$45, will be available through Ticketmaster and at the box office of Qualcomm Stadium starting February 17. Chivas USA vs. Atlante is presented by Tamayo Financial Services.
