Chivas USA to face Charlotte Eagles in U.S. Open Cup

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA will make its first ever trip to North Carolina to face semipro side Charlotte Eagles on July 13 in the Red-and-White's historic debut in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This Third Round U.S. Open Cup tie will be played at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT) at Davidson College in the city of Davidson, North Carolina.


The winner will advance to the Fourth Round of the prestigious knockout tournament, where it will face Chivas USA's cross-stadium rivals the Los Angeles Galaxy. This match is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 at a time and location to be determined.


Charlotte advanced to the Third Round of the 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 4-1 win last night over the El Paso Patriots at Patriot Stadium in the border city of El Paso, Texas. The United Soccer Leagues Second Division side was the only team to win on the road in eight Second Round ties of the 2005 U.S. Open Cup.


The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. First held in 1914, it is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
