SECAUCUS, N.J. - The MetroStars announce that they will host the Chivas Regal Cup at Giants Stadium immediately following the conclusion of their match against D.C. United on Sunday, June 12, 2005. This marks the third consecutive year that the Chivas Regal Cup, the Championship match of Champions League Soccer (CLS) has been played in conjunction with a MetroStars match at Giants Stadium. This year the match will pit Kappa Real Wyckoff (Wyckoff, NJ) against Sport Club Portuguese (Newark, NJ).
"We at the MetroStars are thrilled to bring the best in amateur soccer to Giants Stadium, " said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "Playing a MetroStars contest followed by the Champions League Soccer Final Match demonstrates the way that two soccer organizations can work together to create an opportunity that will benefit soccer in the tri-state region."
As a sponsor, Chivas Regal is making it possible for Champions League Soccer to play its Championship Match of the 2004-05 Season at Giants Stadium. Complete information regarding the day can be found at www.MetroStars.com or at www.championsleaguesoccer.com.
"Playing the 2004-05 Championship Match as the final for the Chivas Regal Cup for the third consecutive year at Giants Stadium is very exciting for our USSF Regional League," said the Vice President of Champions League Soccer, Roberto Ignaccolo. "The past two years we have had a great day of soccer, and we are expecting this year's event to be even better, thanks to the great support that Chivas Regal and the MetroStars give the league."
Champions League Soccer (CLS) is one of only two USSF Regional Leagues directly affiliated with the U.S. Soccer Federation. The league is comprised of teams from the tri-state area, and gives future top-level players the opportunity to play side-by-side with former MLS and MetroStars players like Billy Walsh and Nansha Kalonji, and former New England Revolution players Jesse Van Saun and Kevin Anderson.
"We at Chivas Regal are very excited to again have the opportunity to support these teams and their players in Champions League Soccer," said marketing manager for Pernod Ricard, Whit Repp. "Chivas Regal is proud to partner with organizations who support soccer on both the professional and community levels. The event represents the values of our company."
Chivas Regal is imported and marked by Pernod Ricard in the USA. Pernod Ricard produces Wild Turkey Bourbon and Extra Seagram's Dry Gin and imports and markets Chivas Regal Scotch Whiskey, The Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, Jameson and Bushmills Irish Whiskeys, Martell Cognac, Jacob's Creek and Wyndham Estate Wines.
